EKS & GKE Max Pods per Node Calculator

Work out real per-node pod capacity instead of guessing from a generic default.

Max Pods per Node

EKS · GKE
Max Pods per Node
29
Formula: N × (M − 1) + 2, where N = max ENIs, M = IPv4 addresses per ENI (AWS documentation).

Apply each platform's documented max-pods formula to a chosen instance type or pod count.

Inputs

An EKS instance type (or ENI/IP profile) or a GKE max-pods-per-node target.

Outputs

Maximum pods per node and, for GKE, the resulting alias IP block size.

Example

Check max pods for an m5.xlarge EKS node, with and without prefix delegation.

Important note

Results support planning and learning; verify production changes against your platform and change controls.
