About RFC 2317:

RFC 2317 "Classless IN-ADDR.ARPA delegation" enables reverse DNS delegation for subnets smaller than /24. Since the in-addr.arpa tree is based on octet boundaries, classless subnets require CNAME records in the parent zone pointing to a specially named child zone.
